Modular Shoe

Sustainable Footwear Design

22 Billion shoes are discarded and lay waste in landfills every year. That’s about 2 pairs of shoes discarded per person every year. Is there a way to reduce the number of shoes in the landfill in the first place?
The objective of this product is to incorporate two shoe types in one design, thus decreasing the number of shoes needed per person by at least one. The shoe concept consists of two modules, one which can be worn as a slide and, with the addition of the second module, can be worn as a sneaker. The nature of the design also offers the user multiple options for how to wear the shoe.
